Kennedy ABA has literally saved our family—I’m not even exaggerating. I’m sitting here crying while typing this 😭.
We have a 6-year-old big brother who used to hide in his room every time his little brother (4, with autism) would scream and have meltdowns for hours. It broke my heart seeing my older son so scared of his own brother.
We started ABA about 7–8 months ago, and oh my God… last week I walked in and they were both giggling while building a LEGO tower together. My 4-year-old said, “Look, Mommy!! I did it with brother!!” —clear as day. I full-on ugly cried right there on the kitchen floor while the therapist hugged me ❤️❤️❤️
Then, for the first time, he looked me in the eyes and said, “Mama, up please,” instead of just crying and pulling my arm. I had to sit down—I was shaking. He says “I love you” now and gives actual hugs, not just leaning in.
My older son even asks, “When is the fun teacher coming?” because he loves when they come.

Our 4-year-old, Eli (ASD Level 3), was completely nonverbal—just Thomas the Train scripts all the time, and every transition was a meltdown. Two big chain providers and one Charlotte-based center completely burned us out.
Then, at an autism parent meetup at the Schiele Museum, another mom heard me venting, grabbed my arm, and said, “Call Kennedy—ask for Esther.” I called right there in the parking lot. Best move ever.
We started in-home therapy around May. Jessica and RBT Maria took Eli’s Thomas obsession and turned it into real communication. Now we hear things like, “Thomas, please,” “More blue train,” and just last week at Food Lion on Union Road, he suddenly said, “I love you, Mommy,” out of nowhere. I cried like a baby in the car.
He now brushes his teeth with one prompt, feeds our lab Luna, and when Maria’s white Civic pulls up on Hudson Blvd, he starts screaming “MARIAAAAA!!” at the door.
Parent training in our messy kitchen, no judgment—just results. Some days are still rough, but we finally have hope.

I normally don’t write reviews, but I wanted to share this. When we first heard about ABA therapy, I was honestly confused and a little overwhelmed. A friend suggested we try Kennedy ABA, so we gave it a shot—and I’m really glad we did.
Everyone has been so patient with us. The BCBA explained everything in a way we could actually understand, and the RBT who comes to our home is amazing. She’s gentle, kind, and truly seems to understand our child.
Our child actually looks forward to “therapy time,” which shocked me at first. The progress didn’t happen overnight, but little by little we started seeing real changes, and now we’re seeing real improvement.
It’s such a relief to feel like we’re finally moving in the right direction. We’re just really grateful for the whole Kennedy team. If you’re a parent trying to figure all this out, I honestly recommend them.

Do I need an autism diagnosis to get ABA therapy?
An autism diagnosis is required for insurance to cover ABA therapy services. This is why getting a clear, professional evaluation is the critical first step toward accessing the support your child needs. If you’d like to start ABA therapy before getting a diagnosis, get in touch to discuss private pay options.
How long does the virtual evaluation process take?
The complete evaluation consists of three virtual appointments that can typically be scheduled and completed within 2-3 weeks. This is significantly faster than traditional in-person evaluations, which often have waitlists of several months.
Will my insurance cover the autism evaluation?
Most insurance plans, including Medicaid, cover autism evaluations. As You Are will verify your benefits and let you know about any potential out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment, so there are no surprises.
How does a physician determine if it's autism?
Our physicians are specially trained in autism diagnosis and use gold-standard assessment tools like the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule). They observe specific behaviors, communication patterns, social interactions, and responses during structured activities. Combined with your detailed input about your child’s development and daily behaviors, these evidence-based methods provide an accurate diagnosis — whether conducted virtually or in person.
Is a virtual evaluation as accurate as an in-person one?
Yes. As You Are physicians use the same evidence-based assessment tools (like the ADOS-2 and M-CHAT) as in-person evaluations. Research shows virtual autism evaluations are just as reliable, with the added benefit of observing your child in their natural, comfortable home environment.
What happens after my child receives a diagnosis?
If your child is diagnosed with autism, As You Are will refer you directly back to Kennedy ABA. We’ll immediately begin the insurance authorization process and get your child started with therapy — no waiting, no searching for providers, just a clear path forward for your family.
